Mitsumi CR 4804TE

|
CD-ROM features:
The reading speed of the writer is specified with 24-fold. Therewith
lies the CR-4804TE in the upper region concerning the nominal reading
speed. The maximal speed (January 2000) lies at 32-fold.
Speed
The speed of the drive is measured by the benchmarkprogram Maxa
CD Bench Pro. This rates the average speed over the whole CD and delivers
access times for several data, from which the ROMarks-value is calculated.
With several CD-types the drive reaches the following values:

By a look on the tables you can see, that the speed of
the drive is independent of the CD-type. It lies at 8-fold. But the access
time has changed. The drive has problems with green CD-Rs. It needs the
double access time. This behaviour is very similar to the CD-ROM
of Mitsumi. Blue CD-Rs are no problem for the drive. It is conspicuous
that the CPU-load lies at about 60 %, but in previous tests of CD-ROMs
this values at about 95 %. An explanation of this fact is possible, if you
have a look at the speed factor and the access times. An average speed of
8-fold and access times of medial 150 ms claims the CPU because of the low
data mass not so much as faster drives with lower access times.
Error-correcting
For a mass of the error-correcting we started the benchmarkprogram with
a scratched CD. Here is the result:

You can see, that the speed factor reaches 8-fold as in the previous
tests with 'normal' CDs. This is a positive result. The access times have
verifying the other values a loss of 50 %, that can be explained by the
sratches. This loss lies in a suitable measure.
Copy of a CD
An further aspect for the speed of a drive is the copy of a full CD to
the harddiskdrive. The CR4804TE needs for the copy 6:05 min. If you
compare this time to other CD-ROMs, e.g. Artec 36x needs 6:00 min, Mitsumi
48x needs 8:50 and our topdrive the Cyberdrive 48x 3:33 min. Regarding the
topvalue of 3:33 min, which is reached by a nominal twice faster CD-ROM,
we are with 6:05 min faster than the double toptime (7:06 min). So the drive can
compete with the other fast drives. In this sector a really top performance.
Audio-grabbing
An amazing aspect appears in the audio-grabbing test. The CR-4804TE grabs
inner musictracks with (nearly) the sam speed as outer musictracks:
| Track |
x-fold grabbingspeed |
|
first
musictrack |
7,91 |
|
middle
musictrack |
7,97 |
|
last
musictrack |
7,99 |
Having a look at the compare values
| Mitsumi
48x |
4,65 -
7,38 - 9,33 |
| Artec
36x |
max 7,96 |
| Cyberdrive
48x |
10,21 -
12,97 - 16,37 |
we can datermine, thet the drive delivers really good values. It can compete
with the Mitsumi 48x and the Artec 36x CD-ROM, but it can't reach the top speed
of the Cyberdrive 48x.
CD-ROM upshot
The CD-ROM features of the CR-4804TE are throughout good. In every test it
can concurate with the faster drives and is partially faster. The one and only
penalty is the enormous increasing of the access time, if the drive reads green
CD-Rs. In this case the drive behaves similar to the error-correcting test,
although the green CD-R has no scratches.
